HMRC has announced that from 12 June 2023 their self-assessment helpline will close for the Summer, reopening on 4 September.
This is an illustration of the current pressure on HMRC’s resources and was announced with next to no consultation or advice.
What does this mean for taxpayers?
Our advice is to register for an online tax account if you don’t already have one – you can register here https://www.access.service.gov.uk/registration/email
You can then at least view your tax details and make certain amendments.
You can also use the self-assessment chat here.
If you are expecting a refund its seems the only way to chase this yourself is via the chat
The agent helpline will remain open, but we expect it to very busy as taxpayers ask their agents to call on their behalf.
