If HMRC makes a request from you they normally set a deadline for when they expect a response. If you don’t comply they then tend to issue a formal request which incurs a hefty fine for noncompliance.
But what about when you’re waiting for something from them, like the repayment of tax owed?
Well, things have got so bad that they now have a tool on their website where you can check their targeted response times.
Below is a screen shot of an expected response to a telephone call in respect of a tax refund made on 18 November 2021, as you can see it is over 200 days or Six and Half Months. This is staggering
