Should I be preparing a tax return?

March 16, 2023

We’re coming to the end of the tax year now and some taxpayers may wonder if they should submit a return. The onus is on the taxpayer to submit one if it is needed and just because HMRC have not asked for one or even told you that you don’t need to submit any more it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t file if you are required to.

So, what are the rules, well the following should submit a tax return:

  • Company Directors
  • Self-employed.
  • Owners of rental properties
  • Higher rate taxpayers
  • Anyone with high levels of dividends or interest received.
  • Taxpayers who have made capital gains in the year.
